S3 Endpoint Experiencing elevated error rates and performance degradation in region eu-central-2
Updates
Dear customers,
as part of our process after an incident, we have conducted a root cause analysis (RCA). You can read the RCA below.
Root Cause Analysis
Between 17 and 20 July 2026, customers in eu-central-2 saw intermittent HTTP 503 responses and elevated latency on the S3 API during overnight hours. The region remained available throughout, and the impact was partial and limited to those windows.
The cause was planned work to improve long-term performance: a redistribution of data across the infrastructure underlying eu-central-2. Running alongside peak overnight traffic, this background activity consumed more headroom on part of the platform than we had allowed for.
Our team identified the cause quickly, adjusted the affected configuration, added capacity, and completed the redistribution under controlled conditions. Service returned to normal and remained stable across several subsequent nights of monitoring. The region now benefits from the improved data layout and the additional capacity the work was designed to deliver.
We are strengthening our pre-flight capacity checks and automated safeguards so that background maintenance yields to customer traffic rather than competing with it.
Dear customers,
the issue has now fully been resolved. Service reliability has returned to normal levels.
Thank you for your understanding, and we appreciate your continued trust.
Dear customers,
over the weekend, we have applied a fix that alleviates the issues and we could already see improvements during the last nights. However, we are still working on a permanent fix. Until then we may still experiencing issues.
We apologize for any inconvenience!
We are still experiencing occasional issues, especially during night-times. We are investigating the issue.
Dear customers,
we are currently investigating an issue causing elevated error rates and performance degradation in region eu-central-2 of our S3 endpoint.
Some users may experience slower response times or intermittent errors when accessing the service. While the system remains generally operational, these symptoms may impact reliability for certain operations.
Our team is actively looking into the cause and taking steps to mitigate the issue. We will resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
